Devlog #4

03.07.2024

Another month passed by, and the angry Grandma keeps on haunting our poor little Broccoli. Unfortunately (for her), she lost her superpowers, and therefor can’t walk through her own furniture anymore. So all she stays left with now, is working out and walking faster, to get a hold of the feisty green fella that keeps strolling through her house as if it was free real estate.
And since the Grandma is also pretty smart, she figured where some of the veggies like to hide.
But the veggies aren’t stupid either, so they adapted their strategy and ended up in different hiding spots. Good luck to finding them now, Grandma. Haha!

My dearest co-producers and professors. The semester has come to an end, and so has our final game status.
We took the feedback into careful consideration and updated the following major points:

  • Grandma does not walk through objects anymore, but around them, which gives the player a moment to breathe and actually look around in the room, to figure out a strategy
  • The vegetables have different spawn points now, to increase replayability and make it less easy, now that you actually can take a break from the hungry grandma
  • Game Sounds have been added to improve game experience (yes, there is a jump sound now lol)
  • The volume can be adapted over the options menu now

With that being said, I want to express my biggest THANK YOU to my team, without you guys this wouldn’t have been possible ☺️
I wish you all a pleasant summer and, if you want to, a nice time playing our little game. 😃

Note: This game was created as a semester project for university, as a three-headed team.

Devlog #3

07.06.2024

Time has passed, and our game has progressed. As prophesied, little Broccoli’s life has gotten harder. The days of peaceful strolls through the house are over. The hungry Grandma figured that there’s something wrong in her (not so) usual household. And her beloved food is all over the place?! That fully can’t happen! She HAS to cook them all!
Now, what once was a calm day in a quiet house, has become a hectic tumult. The veggies tried to escape, but there was no way to leave all by themselves. Only as a unit, they would be strong.
That’s why our little Broccoli, the hero, has brought it upon himself to save them all, and escape together with them to the safe haven, the garden, where he can be free, and live his life as an independent vegetable. (Sounds familiar..?)

For our gameplay, the Grandma follows the Broccoli now. But she has a little weakness. Cakes are our dear Grandma’s guilty pleasure. And our smart Broccoli has figured that out. But honestly, who could resist a delicious, fresh cake anyways?! What a way to distract an old woman…
Feel free to accompany the little fella on his journey!

Additionally, we have a functional interface now. Together with a start screen, end screen (Game Over Screen + Winning Screen) and a little intro (find the sneak peek below), the game is functional and ready to be playtested by you guys.
Some more updates are yet to come, since we still face a few issues. Nevertheless it’s fun to play, and we can’t wait to see y’all play! See you in the next devlog~

Devlog #2

22.05.2024

It’s been almost a month since our last update, but several things have changed in our cute little game.

As promised in Devlog #1, today you will receive a little insight into the granny’s cozy home. While peace still lingers in the house, rooms not even hinting any upcoming dangers, our little Broccoli can take a gentle stroll through each and every room. The doors willingly opening for him, as soon as he approaches. Little does he know that this won’t stay like that, and that a hungry Grandma, ready for carnage, is lingering in the dark shadows, ready to devour her photosynthesis-dependant prey.
Follow the lighthearted Broccoli and enjoy the decent interior with him, as long as he still can.

For our game, we have the moveset of the broccoli, as well as a working and running grandma in our project so far! The movesets need to be edited, as well as the pathfinding, which will consistently be worked at.

Our house is in the making, pictures for that will follow in the second Devlog!

Until then~
